Our Animals

Chloe

Chloe is a cross fox (Vulpes Vulpes) that was generously donated by a friend as a companion for Roka after the loss of his bonded mate, Nirvana. He lit up when he first met her and offered her all of his toys and treats. It was love at first sight. Tragically we lost Roka not long after and decided to try introducing her to Raven and Rogue. We chose this pairing based on personalities and for the best outcome for success. We knew our other girls would not accept her.

Not only did Raven and Rogue accept her but they absolutely love her. Usually females do not get along but this is not the case with Raven & Chloe. They adore playing and grooming one another.

Chloe is a bit shy but we are hopeful she will warm up to us for tasty treats!

Chloe has been missing since Jan. 2023 after an incident where foxes unlatched the gate to their enclosure. This has been recifyed through the use of clips to ensure the gates remain shut. Though we still see her regularly we have not been able to capture her. If you see here please contact us immediately with her location. DO NOT CHASE!!

RAVEN

Raven is a silver fox (vulpes vulpes) that was brought to Fox Friends Sanctuary by FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) because her previous owners had surrendered her to an animal shelter. Since animal shelters are not equipped to handle foxes they called FWC to place her. She was dirty and underweight when she arrived due to being fed an incorrect diet of cat food.

Despite her situation Raven is a very sweet and affectionate girl. She loves to play and just get belly rubs. After her quarantine period she was introduced to Rogue and they have been the best of pals ever since!

Raven is very vocal and enjoys “talking” with the dogs.

Rogue

Rogue is a red fox (vulpes vulpes) whose coloration is called a red platinum.

Rogue was a fur farm rescue from Minnesota pulled by Mikayla of SaveAFox. Rogue enjoys the breeze on the top of his dog house, going down the slide, and playing with toys. He is still quite nervous around people but we are seeing little improvements everyday. Rogue does not have a tail, this is a result of the stress endured while at the fur farm. We are not sure if he chewed it off himself or if his mother did. All we know is he never has to worry again!

Rogue absolutely loves playing with his toys and eating chicken drumsticks!

Ren

Ren

Ren & Rey

Ren is a color variation of red fox (vulpes vulpes) we believe is called smokey fox. Rey is also a red fox and her coloration is known as silver.

Ren and Rey came from a large fur farm rescue mission and were among the youngest to be saved. They are littermates and they have never had any human contact. The farmer loaded crates by picking up foxes with large tongs. We are very fortunate these guys are relatively healthy aside from the common muscle wasting and poop eating that comes as no surprise since they were kept in such a tiny cage suspended from the ground.

Since being at Fox Friends Sanctuary their coats have drastically improved, they’ve gained much needed muscle and our vet says they are healthy and doing great!

They came to us quite feral and are still shy. They LOVE chicken and playing with their toys.

Raney.jpg

Raney

Raney is a red fox (vulpes vulpes) and her color is known as pearl, we suspect was first purchased at an auction in Madison, FL. She was then passed around from home to home before a friend of ours heard someone talking about setting her free. Not only is this illegal but foxes raised in captivity like Raney cannot survive in the wild. Our friend was not about to let this happen and gave us a call asking if we would be able to take her. Of course we couldn’t say no and immediately drove to pick her up.

Since she arrived she has had such a personality and is so playful. Impressively it only took her a few days to get familiarized with us. We have even been able to take her out on a leash and are hopeful she could become an ambassador animal to teach about exotic animals as pets. She is very photogenic and easy to please. We absolutely adore her and are glad she’s found a home here.

You may have seen us in Pet Supermarket in Lake City! Unfortunately now that Raney has grown she is too nervous to go places with us anymore but you can see her personality shine on our YouTube videos. She is such a character.

Relic

Relic is a red fox (vulpes vulpes) that was originally purchased as a pet from a breeder in South Florida. Unfortunately in her first home the dogs were not fond of her presence and would go after her. She was then given to a friend who surrendered her to us. We are unsure of any other details about her past but we are happy to have her. She loves making friends!

Relic can be shy at first but loves to play. She loves to destroy her toys, chew her kong, and splash in her water bucket.

Roka.jpg

Remembering Roka

Roka was a red fox (vulpes vulpes) rescued from California where it isn’t legal to keep foxes as pets. Fortunately he made it to a sanctuary in Georgia where he met his companion Nirvana. Though tragically the sanctuary was shut down due to death of the owner. So Roka and Nirvana, as well as many of the other residents, were graciously taken in by Animal Edventures in North Carolina. He came to Fox Friends Sanctuary because Animal Edventures felt Nirvana was not thriving as well as she could be due to the amount of visitors and would do better at a private sanctuary and we did not want to separate the pair.

Roka was quite a friendly guy and loved to greet us with a smile and tail wag. His favorite food was chicken. He enjoyed naps, diving into fresh hay, and grooming Nirvana.

Sadly he passed shortly after his companion Nirvana due to complications of acquired Myasthenia Gravis. He was the only documented fox with this condition.

Remembering Nirvana

Nirvana was a red fox (vulpes vulpes) and her coloration is known as Dakota Gold. She was rescued from a fur farm that was being shut down. Since she was never handled by humans until nearly 4 months of age she was very skittish.

Nirvana was bonded to Roka and always looked to him for support. She loved fish, chicken hearts, mice, and burying treats for later. She also enjoyed playing with cat teaser toys.

She passed away due to a sudden illness we believe may have been due to her poor immune system as a result of having heartworms in the past. We miss her dearly.

Roxi.jpg

Roxi

Roxi is a red fox (vulpes vulpes) and her coloration is called silver. She came to Fox Friends Sanctuary as an owner surrender. Her owner felt that she was unable provide enough time for her. Foxes are very demanding animals, our beloved Roxi is no exception.

Roxi is a very enthusiastic and vocal girl. She loves running, screaming, hoarding toys, and digging. Another hobby of hers, that she shares with other foxes, is peeing on everything. Foxes love to mark!

Ruin

Ruin is a red fox (vulpes vulpes) and his coloration is known as pearl. He came to Fox Friends Sanctuary as a rescue with Wizard of Paws Wildlife Education. His previous owner(s) bred foxes in Virginia before the state made keeping foxes illegal. They made the decision to rehome all of their foxes so that none had to be euthanized by the state.

Ruin is an easy going guy that loves treats. He enjoys playing with his toys, napping upside-down, and running. He will make friends with anyone as long as you have treats!

Riot2020.jpg

Riot

Riot is the fox the fox that started it all. He was purchased from a breeder as a pet by the owner of Fox Friends Sanctuary. A few months after connecting with other fox owners she realized that many who purchase these animals as pets do so on a whim and ultimately the foxes suffer as a result. It wasn’t long before she decided from here on out she wanted to rescue foxes. She created Fox Friends Sanctuary as a way to provide permanent homes to these animals as well as provide education and resources to current and prospective owners.

Riot is the star of our YouTube, where you can find cute videos of all of our foxes! Riot enjoys napping, begging for treats, and “his” dog Castiel, a German Shepherd.
